That Shadow That Never Leaves You

The shadow that never leaves you,

Two confronting concrete slabs balance as they rely on each other to remain stable. A chunk of concrete has broken off has fallen to the ground. There is barely enough room to freely walk around, this creates tension between the viewer and the work. The two opposing slabs are physically disconnected but appear to be connected by the imagery covering the surface. The photograph wraps the concrete and creates a skin-like covering to display a sense of internalized conflict as the two sides interact. One side of the work creates a free feeling of movement and an uneasy trapped feeling on the other side. All of the imagery in this work is from a single geographical location within an urban environment, displaying multiple perspectives.

This concrete sphere rests on a pile of concrete chunks and rebar. The internal structure built of rebar is protruding through the surface as though it is breaking free. The distressed photos of urban architecture, street art, and infrastructure show the passage of time through marks that people have left behind.

This work is a slender structure made of chipboard that is coated in photographs and paint. The pictures are transferred onto the surface so you can still see the chipped, damaged body below. Selected sections of the images are redacted using solid, brightly colored blocks. The photographs capture architecture within the current urban environment that appears to be frozen in the 1920s. The buildings depicted show the effect of urban landscape curation; some buildings are restored while others are ignored as they sit vacantly and decay.
